According to the statistics, the installed capacity of PV inverter worldwide approached 1TW in 2021. With the fast development of installed capacity and the improvement of technology, the total cost of ownership (TCO) per watt of PV inverter has been significantly reduced and is set to fall further. It has provided the PV power generation industry with good development conditions. Nevertheless, as solar power and other renewable energy integrate into power grids, there are new requirements for the operation of the power system. Along with the development of battery cell technology and the gradual reduction of the cost of energy storage equipment, the combination of PV inverter and energy storage system has been widely recognized and used in the industry. Most PV inverter and energy storage systems are installed under harsh conditions. Therefore, the inverter must be able to withstand high temperatures. Meanwhile, considering the great impact of outdoor running on the fan’s lifetime, natural cooling is usually adopted for the PV inverter and energy storage system. Silicon carbide power devices can operate at a junction temperature of up to 175 ℃, and their switching losses and conduction losses are smaller than those of conventional silicon-based power semiconductor devices. Suppose that silicon carbide power devices are used in PV inverter and energy storage systems, it can not only greatly reduce the design difficulty and cost of cooling devices, but also increase the overall reliability of the system.
